Howden’s Vintage Day

Howden’s Vintage Day

For some people it’s any excuse for a party; for FULLERS Bakery staff, it’s any excuse to dress up!

On Saturday 28th April, Howden town celebrated its “Vintage Day” and our Howden shop staff needed no encouragement to join in the festivities.

Tina led her team of three through the 50s to the late 60s, dressed in true 50s style with a full skirted and petticoated dress, complete with pony tail and Bobby socks. Lorraine , topped off with a beehive hair-do, courtesy of her mum, looked every bit the chic girl-about-town, in a Mary Quant style mini dress and our youngest team member, Skye, brought us well and truly into the hippie era with her floral top and flowers in her hair.

The shop itself was not to be outdone. A vintage record player took pride of place in the window and the interior was festooned with old 45 records of the era.

All this showcased our products, many of which brought back lots of memories: egg custard tarts, Yorkshire curd tarts and Victoria sponges rubbed shoulders with freshly baked sausage rolls, meat pies, ham and egg flans and ham sandwiches which, those of us who are old enough, remember as the staple sandwich of the time. -Not for us Brie and cranberry and other exotica!- and of course, all washed down with freshly made cups of tea.

Our team thoroughly enjoyed the trip back in time but, rest assured, we are back this week with all the 21st century, quality, bakery goods which many have come to expect from a family bakery. We have our modern brownies, muffins, sourdoughs and savoury slices, all brought to you with old-fashioned courtesy.
